It’s Monday!

July 23, 2012 by Sarah Plum(itallo) 11 Comments

Who would’ve thought Monday would become my favorite day of the week? It totally has! I look forward to Monday Made It alllllllll week long — both because I’m excited to share my hard work, but also because I am so inspired by what everyone else creates!

Mr. Plum and I took our little guy on an adventure this weekend to see the Stephen F. Udvar-Hazy Center, a part of the National Air and Space Museum. William has a *tiny* obsession with space (and by tiny, I mean massive) and we couldn’t resist the opportunity to let him see the shuttle Discovery in person.
Let me just tell you… I teared up. We’ve been over my propensity to tear-up before, but oh my word, y’all. The nerd in me was not prepared for the sight of that spacecraft and the opportunity to see her up close. To see that, no, her surface is not shiny, and oh? that’s a stencil?!
Those types of moments are the moments we want our students to have. Those moments of complete awe and wonder. Those moments of discovery.

Which led me to this:

I took more than 150 photos while we were at the Hazy Center, and when I got to this one while reviewing them on my computer I just stopped. And then I thought, “this has to be in my classroom.” I jokingly turned to my husband and said, “hey — Discovery: it’s not just for astronauts.”
As soon as the words left my mouth my eyes got all wide and my brain did that thing where I just had to make this poster before I did anything else. And then I thought of all of you — and thought maybe, just maybe, there’d be someone out there that would want this in their classroom too.
This file is large enough to print as a 16×20 poster (I’m picking mine up at Costco this afternoon!!!), and comes with a release in the .zip file for you to do so without any hassle. I’ve uploaded it to my TPT store; you can either click here or on the image to go and download it!
To sweeten this Monday Made It, I would like to giveaway a printed 16×20 poster of this to one lucky follower. Simply enter the Rafflecopter below, and I’ll choose a winner on Friday!
I’m also planning on participating in TBA’s Freebie Friday this week in which I’m going to put together a pack of images of the space shuttle and other Smithsonian highlights I took that you can utilize for classroom use. (I actually went to art school briefly for photography, but that’s a story for another day!) So follow me and check back so that you don’t miss it!

Better Late Than Never!

July 22, 2012 by Sarah Plum(itallo) 9 Comments

I  finally finished putting together my planner pack for 2012-2013! This project started out as just a personal project, but then I realized that it might be useful to other teachers, and so I kept going!

While I love my rainbow theme, I also know that it’s a bit ink heavy — which is why I ended up doing a blackline version of the planner pack to be printed on bright paper (this is what delayed it a bit).

I’ve already printed it out and set it up in my organizer for the year, and I am so so pleased with it! I’m a wee-bit of a post-it note hoarder, so this agenda (which is laminated for durability) is going to be very useful for me this year!

I’ve already started adding things to my August calendar because August is less than two weeks away! I cannot believe how quickly this summer has gone by, and really need to kick it into high gear because my to-do list keeps growing! I have my orientation on the second of August, and then my first day of new teacher orientation is August 22nd. (I just realized that’s a month from today. Wow.)
Despite how overwhelming my to-do list is, I couldn’t be more excited to see everything coming together. I worked so hard for so long to make this (my own classroom) a reality, that the late nights and sleepy eyes when my little guy is calling “Mommmmmmmmmmyyyyyyyy!” in the morning is just another part of this joyful process.
While I’ve listed this planner pack in my TPT store (it’s only $3.00!), it is the much-promised freebie for all of those that entered my giveaway! I’m going to go-through the Rafflecopter entries tonight and tomorrow and e-mail it out in batches.  Check your e-mail if you entered the giveaway — I have officially sent them all out! I hope that it will be useful to those of you that entered!

Hold. The. Phone.

July 12, 2012 by Sarah Plum(itallo) 13 Comments

And shut the front door. The windows, too. Maybe even the garage.

Did I really just list my first product on TPT? Yes, yes I did.

I’ve been feeling a wee bit under the weather in the past day and couldn’t sleep last night. I decided to work on my organizational binders for this upcoming year and put on The Wiz (I know, I know, I’m a walking cliche) and was hit with a ton of inspiration.
One of the things I love most about the Wizard of Oz is how diverse the story is. There are so many lessons you can learn from it, and as a teacher, so many ways you can utilize those lessons in your classroom. So, naturally, I used quotations from the movie and book to round out my binders and they. fit. perfectly.
I have yet to print + laminate (that’ll be a part of my Monday Made It since I just got my ink refilled at Costco — who knew? — and got a new laminator), so I can’t show you the binders in action… yet. I can, however, share with you my one of favorite covers (it’s hard to choose).

Raise your hand if you think I’m going to use this as a management technique. All hands raised? Great! You’re totally right. I might even play “Ease on Down the Road” to transition out of morning meeting. Who knows! Anything can happen in Oz, er, my classroom!
To celebrate my first paid item in my TPT store, the pack of binder covers + spine labels is on sale for $2.50 until tomorrow at midnight! Head on over and check them out!
Don’t forget to enter my giveaway to win all (now) current and future items in my TPT store! There will be five winners so spread the word!
I’m in a super-de-duper mood to night because I think we might’ve turned a potty-training corner (you have no idea how relieved I am!), the first person to correctly guess my favorite character from the original movie will get a copy of the binder set! Be sure and leave your e-mail!

Giveaway, ahoy!

July 10, 2012 by Sarah Plum(itallo) 32 Comments

I’m in the midst of potty-training my nearly three year old little dude, so there’s not much productive work getting done other than bribing him with chocolate and juice to utilize the potty. So, I decided now is the best time for a giveaway!
So what if I haven’t quite hit 100 followers yet? Let’s get this giveaway party started, right?!
So…
Here’s the deal.
Five lucky winners will win ALL future paid products on my TPT store (and Teacher’s Notebook if I ever open one). Forever. And ever and ever.
I’m hoping to list my first product by the end of the week (if potty-training goes well), so by the time the giveaway finishes next week, there will be at least one product in the hands of five lucky winners (and I can tell you that you’ve already seen a sneak peek on here and it involves Oz)! From that point on, every time I list something new, those five people will get the product e-mailed to them as an attachment — for  FREE FREE FREE (which is the best kind of free)!
Sound good? I hope so!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

If you choose to blog about the giveaway — you can just grab my button on ye’ old sidebar over there to link back, because like I said, potty-training waits for no man and at this point I haven’t whipped up a custom graphic. I might. So using either is fine!

ETA: Little guy is finally asleep, so I whipped this up real quick:
